David Schluss, was born in 1943. He started painting at a very early age in Israel. He attended school in the ancient city of Jaffa, the historical seaport in central Israel. It was there that the mystical walls of the city and the austere religion of the historic churches, temples and monasteries captivated him.
Painting depicts a pregnant and prominent woman walking with a flowing dress at night. A servant clutching the back hem of the dress, to prevent it from dragging, in one hand, and in the other holding a torch. In the background there are street viewers or perhaps townsfolk who live on that street watching the foreground scene with heads bowed.
