An emotional plea sent by the Modzitzer Rebbe to Rabbi Shlomo Baumgarten and Rabbi Vilenski in August 1945 who were military Rabbis right after the war ended, asking them to bring his 10-year-old granddaughter, Keila Finkler, to London.
The Rebbe writes that he has been informed by Chaplain Major Klepfish that she has survived the Holocaust and is in Bergen Belsen, and appeals to Rabbi Baumgarten and Rabbi Vilenski who were carrying out relief work there on behalf of Rabbi Dr Schonfeld’s committee, to bring her to London (from where Mr. Harry Goodman had promised to arrange her ongoing journey to New York) and under no circumstances send her back to Poland.
He points out that she is the only survivor of her family, and a descendant of the great Rebbes of Kuzmir and Radoshitz and of Rabbi Akiva Eger, and undertakes to cover any costs involved.
