Yosef ben Matityahu’s book was copied in 953 AD by an anonymous author who calls him "Yosef ben Gurion" (in the history of the Jews of the Great Revolt at the end of the Second Temple period there was indeed a leader named Yosef ben Gurion). The essay reviews the history of the people of Israel during the Second Temple period up to the Great Revolt and is in fact a copy of the book of Josephus Flavius himself.
The book Yosifun is a summary of the book by Josephus Flavius. It describes historically the Jewish nation at the time of the Second Temple, and primarily The Great Revolt that occurred in the years 66-70 CE. The identity of the editor of the book is unknown. The original was written in Latin.
At the beginning of the 16th century, it was translated into Hebrew and morphed into an important book on Jewish history. It is no wonder that it
was printed in 80 editions by the year 1948.
