This metallic thread on cotton woven belt has an attached two-part silver buckle. The buckle has dense engraving and matting in a "folk style" that is consistent with Jewish silversmith work of 18th and early 19th century Galicia. Both the buckle and belt are for use once a year, on Yom Kippur. While most Yom Kippur belt buckles have Hebrew engraving attesting to that, a handful of examples like this, with no Hebrew, are known to be made for Yom Kippur as well. For another two-part silver buckle with woven belt that lacks any Hebrew, see the book "Treasures of Jewish Galicia".
