This silver chanukah lamp is from Poland. The detail you see in the palm trees, flowers, scrollwork, and central image of the Temple Menorah was done by hand, through the techniques of chasing and repousse. The motif of the palm tree symbolized the Garden of Eden. The image of the Temple Menorah in the center, devoid of flanking lions of Judah, is very unusual for a chanukah lamp from Poland. It is very typical of 18th century chanukah lamps from Italy. Perhaps the designer was influenced from those older examples from that far away region?
